Hi Walter Hook fans,

Greetings from the Dana Gallery...I wanted to say "hello" and invite you to visit the gallery to enjoy our "Collector's Resale" feature of 20 assorted works by celebrated artist and revered teacher Walter Hook.

The collection comes from a local family who were passionate supporters and avid followers of Walter Hook,  amassing an impressive body of Walter's work over the years. All the works are currently on display through February and March and available for purchase.

I've enclosed a selection of images for your virtual viewing and will be happy to send additional images representing the entire collection on hand, if you wish.

Please let me know if I may assist you with any requests or questions...I'll be happy to help!

At Last! Access to Milltown State Park is on the horizon!
Montana State Parks is seeking public comment on a draft environmental assessment (EA) for a proposal to accept the donation of an approximately 10-acre parcel of property from International Paper Company (IP), located immediately adjacent to Milltown State Park.

Following acquisition of the property, Montana State Parks would improve the access roadway to provide safe passage for the public entering and exiting Milltown State Park. Public Comments are accepted through Wednesday, November 25 at 5pm.

Acquisition of the parcel would secure permanent public access to the park via the existing access road and enable Montana State Parks to move forward in the development and opening of the park to the public.  Acquisition would also preserve and enhance the cultural and historic character of the larger area by ensuring that future improvements to the site would be compatible with Milltown State Park and associated cultural attributes and recreational opportunities.

What's in the EA?

A copy of the EA may be requested by mailing Montana State Parks, 3201 Spurgin Road, Missoula, MT 59804; phoning 406-542-5533; or emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. The EA can also be viewed online at http://stateparks.mt.gov/news/publicNotices/environmental-assessments/pn_0050.html.

How do I comment?

The public is invited to comment on the draft EA. The public comment period will be open for 21 days. Comments will be accepted through Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at 5pm.

MonarchMilltown State Park is hosting an educational program “Milkweed, Monarchs and Other Pollinators in Your Backyard,” and a chance for volunteers to plant milkweed seeds on October 25, 2015 at 12 p.m.

Every fall, monarch butterflies from west of the Rocky Mountains migrate south to California when daylight wanes and temperatures drop. They fly hundreds of miles to reach the Pacific Coast and overwinter in eucalyptus and cypress trees. Learn more about these incredible travelers at Milltown State Park for “Milkweed, Monarchs and Other Pollinators in Your Backyard,” a program offered by Glenn Marangelo from the Missoula Butterfly House and Insectarium. Visitors are invited to stay afterwards to plant milkweed seeds and walk the new trails at Milltown State Park.

Milltown State Park is one of Montana’s newest. The park features 500 acres of floodplain, wetlands and willows, and an overlook with views of the Blackfoot and Clark Fork rivers’ confluence. Trail work wrapped up this summer on the approximate 3-mile trail system, which connects the overlook to an existing rail grade and blends recreation with interpretation of the area’s natural and cultural history, river ecology and restoration.
