What is happening outside?

Great horned owls begin nesting.

On warmer days, snow flies, Chionea valga,  can be seen crawling over the snow.  Though they may look like spiders, they only have 6 legs and are most closely related to the crane fly.

Bear cubs are born.

Look for snowshoe hare tracks when out xc skiing or snowshoeing in conifer forests.  The hares winter diet consists of conifer buds and shrub bark that are made accessible by the rising platform of snow.
